The Malaysian-Thai Chamber of Commerce (MTCC) was established in 2002 as an association primarily composed of Malaysian and Thai companies and entrepreneurs. MTCC assumes a major role in promoting closer collaboration between Malaysian and Thai companies and entrepreneurs, and continuously enhances its networking with respective governments to promote and develop economic relations in line with its objectives.

The establishment of the Malaysian-Thai Chamber of Commerce (MTCC) was made under the request of the former Minister of the Ministry of International Trade & Industry, Dato’ Seri Rafidah Aziz, who had the aim of uniting a loose group of Malaysian business people operating in Thailand. MTCC was officially registered with the Ministry of Commerce of Thailand on 21 June 2002 and launched on 6 July 2002, with inauguration by the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad.
At its first Annual General Meeting on 10 August 2002, a Board of Directors was elected to organize and carry out the day-to-day activities of MTCC. Mr. Yeap Swee Chuan was elected as the first Chairman. Dato’ Syed Norulzaman bin Syed Kamarulzaman, the then Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand, was appointed as the first patron; the current patron is Dato’ Jojie Samuel, the present Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand.
What the By-Laws set out to do

- To promote and develop economic relations between Malaysia and Thailand.
- To promote cooperation and business relations among Malaysian business people in Thailand and in the surrounding region.
- To cooperate with any country’s authorities to develop trade, industry, investment and economic activities.
- To provide advice, ideas and suggestions for Malaysian business interests in Thailand and the surrounding region in the fields of trade, agriculture, investment and other related matters.
- To perform activities and provide services to carry out the duties of the Chamber.
- To compile news, information and statistics on trade, industrial affairs and legal and financial matters, for distribution to members.
- To assist and promote activities that are benevolent to society.
Two flags, one circle
A circle is stamped with the words "Malaysian – Thai Chamber of Commerce" written in English around the circle. The middle of the seal has the abbreviation M.T.C.C.

MTCC produces quarterly newsletters to keep members apprised of the latest governmental policies and economic developments, and also produces an annual handbook/directory. A highlight of MTCC’s publication achievements is the official launch of its website in February 2005, revamped in 2013 for a more user-friendly and modern web design.
Beyond the boardroom
MTCC has visited fellow Malaysians incarcerated in Thai prisons as part of the Malaysian Embassy’s outreach, supported the anti-drug campaign of the foundation thinkSMALL, and made a donation to the FXB Foundation (Thailand) to support a sustainable lunch programme for students in Sakeo province. When Thailand experienced its most serious flood in fifty years in 2011, MTCC distributed dry food, drinking water and sanitizing liquid to flood-stricken communities. A 2013 charity dinner raised 500,000 Baht for Watsungwej Temple School.

MTCC moved to its new office premise in February 2015, at Sathorn Square Office Tower, within the same complex as MATRADE, the Malaysian External Trade Development Corporation. By providing office space for MTCC to operate, the Malaysian government is extending its support for the further growth and development of MTCC.

From an initial group of 10 members, MTCC has grown over the years to 184 members, comprising both ordinary and associate members. Currently, MTCC has 101 ordinary members and 83 associate members. The majority of MTCC members are natural or juristic persons having Malaysian nationality or Malaysians who are partners or shareholders of locally incorporated companies in Thailand.
